Kristi Mills, Consultant

Kristi Mills has several years of communications experience spanning agencies, small companies, Fortune-500 organizations, non-profits and academia. Kristi’s deep professional experience and strategic background paired with her writing and project management skills help her deliver smart solutions for her clients – on time and within budget.

Kristi started her career at several East Coast agencies, working for well-known brands including Resolve, Woolite, AT&T and Castrol. In 2001, she landed her “dream job” at SoBe beverages, where she paired her communications experience with her interest in action sports. SoBe was then officially acquired by PepsiCo, and Kristi joined the company’s internal communications team. To her shock and delight, a new passion – employee/internal communications – was born.

At PepsiCo, Kristi was responsible for regional town halls, global quarterly meetings and she launched the award-winning Pepsi Refresh Project with employees – the largest brand-driven employee engagement/CSR project in the history of the company. She also led employee relocation communications surrounding PepsiCo’s headquarters renovation project, and managed communications for a year-long quality transformation project. Deliverables included a plan, journey map, a leadership video, regular leadership email updates, an employee video, an intranet article series, a digital signage series, a plant survey, dedicated website/content and an employee recognition effort.

Since 2013, Kristi has been a change communications consultant supporting business transformation projects in the healthcare, hospitality, industrial and food and beverage sectors. Some recent engagements included the rollout of a new mission/vision/values statement, employee recognition program for a systems transformation and “code of excellence” for Health Quest, to reinforce desired employee behaviors. In addition, Kristi has created an internal communications strategic plan and change communications measurement for Otis, and she has developed leadership communications and led an internal/external storytelling effort for Hyatt, to support the company’s strategic vision.

While falling passionately in love with internal communications by day, at night, Kristi earned her master’s degree in Strategic Communications at Columbia University, where she now acts as a course facilitator and guest lecturer in the executive-level Strategic Communications graduate program. She has also guest lectured at NYU, Pepperdine University and Providence College.
